The Rise and Fall of Vincent K. McMahon.
Vincent K. McMahon is a man who was Chairman of the board of World Wrestling Entertainment but I will explain later why he's no longer the head of WWE. Vince had the business in his hands growing up unlike others who raised the companies from the ground up . He was born the son of Jess McMahon a wrestling promoter. Jess was a wrestling promoter in the 1950s and 1960s in the Northeast mostly. In her biography, wrestler The Fabulous Moolah claimed that Jess McMahon was one of the first promoters to split gate proceeds with his wrestlers. Unlike his son, McMahon believed that the job of a promoter should be kept backstage or behind the scenes and should never interfere with the action in the ring. Though Jess McMahon appeared in the movie The Wrestler in a cast that was dominated by contemporary wrestlers, he believed that wrestlers should remain wrestlers and not branch off into other forms of media.
Accordingly, he disapproved of Hulk Hogan's appearance in Rocky III in 1982, leading to Hogan's temporary departure from the WWF for Verne Gagne's American Wrestling Association. Vince McMahon was a com1mentator for his dad's company and saw that he wanted to get in the business himself so he bought the company in 1982 from his dad. Vince McMahon was a married man with a young family at the time in his 30s and saw the business differently then his dad. When Vince bought the company from his dad he rehired Hogan as his top star and avidly supported wrestlers branching out into other fields, as well as cross-promotions with various musicians, actors, and other personalities outside of wrestling.
If Jess McMahon had known what his son was gonna do with the business he would have never sold it to him. In the 1980s yes there was a huge stars but not like they are today in the business but if Jess McMahon was still around I know the business would be alot different. The younger McMahon's competitive tactics were successful, and the WWF quickly became the most prominent exponent of "sports entertainment". Jess McMahon would not live to see his company grow from a territorial promotion to what is now a worldwide organization.
Vince McMahon took his dads company and turned into a Million dollar Business. In 2001 during the Monday Night Wars Vince McMahon bought one of the rival companies called World Championship Wrestling and in 2008 bought another rival Extreme Championship Wrestling buying these 2 companies gave him everything they had including there library which was extensive. These 2 company's helped create wrestlers outside of the McMahon empire.
Vinces Wife Linda and children joined the company behind the scenes and became responsible for some of the best moments within his company. Stephanie Vinces Daughter married into the business. She is married to HHH one of the WWEs top stars of all the time (I will tell his story another time) and Shane her brother works behind the scenes. Linda was a senator from NY actually in the early 2000s so she was doing her own thing.
Vince lead WWE through alot of Controversaries including Sex Scandals, Steroid Use, Deaths that were suspicious and also Controversial in itself. Vince McMahon was on screen unlike his dad and believed in showing his face to the audience.
Yes a lot think he was a good man but some don't. Vince McMahon himself got into trouble in 2022. Following claims of hush-money agreements McMahon paid over alleged affairs with former WWE employees, McMahon stepped down as CEO and chairman of WWE on June 17, 2022, pending the conclusion of an internal investigation and was replaced by his daughter, Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie eventually turned the business over to her husband HHH. On July 22, 2022, McMahon announced his retirement from WWE. Vince will go down in Wrestling History as the man who lead WWE to what it is today. Honestly alot of fans were happy when he left the business.
