Strikeforce Squadron (Season One) Episode Six: Pretty In Pink

Eve stood in front of the gymnasium doors, her palms sweaty and her heart pounding. The echo of rhythmic chants and the occasional squeak of sneakers against the polished floor seeped through the crack between the doors. She took a deep breath and stepped inside, greeted by a kaleidoscope of color as the cheerleading squad practiced their routines.

Eve had never considered herself the cheerleader type, but something about the energy and camaraderie of the team intrigued her. It was her junior year, and she felt a tug to break out of her comfort zone. Joining the cheerleading squad seemed as good a way as any.

A clipboard-wielding coach barked instructions to a row of girls who were stretching in synchronized splits. Eve scanned the room nervously until her eyes landed on another girl standing off to the side, nervously clutching a water bottle.

Eve approached her. "Hey, is this your first time trying out too?" she asked.

The girl's hazel eyes darted up before quickly looking down again. She nodded. "Yeah. I'm Karen," she said, her voice soft but steady. "What about you?"

"First time for me too," Eve said, flashing what she hoped was a reassuring smile. "I'm Eve. Nice to meet you."

Karen's tense shoulders relaxed slightly. "Nice to meet you too. Are you nervous?"

Eve laughed, more at herself than anything. "A little. Okay, a lot. But I figured I'd give it a shot. What about you?"

Karen hesitated, fidgeting with the cap of her water bottle. "I'm hoping this will help with my college applications. If I make the team, it'll look good, you know?"

Eve tilted her head. "College applications already? Isn't it kind of early?"

Karen's cheeks flushed. "I have to start early. I'm aiming for a scholarship, and every little thing helps. My family can't really afford tuition, so if I want to get into one of the top schools, I need to stand out."

Eve nodded, impressed by Karen's determination. "That's amazing. I mean, it's a lot of pressure, but you're really driven."

Karen shrugged, a small smile playing on her lips. "It's just... what I have to do. What about you? Why cheerleading?"

Eve paused, considering her answer. "I guess I just wanted to try something new. Shake things up a bit. I've spent so much time sticking to what I know, but I figured it's time to see what else is out there."

Karen seemed to take this in thoughtfully. "Well, I hope we both make it," she said, her voice gaining a bit more confidence.

"Me too," Eve said with a grin.

The coach's whistle cut through the air, calling for the tryouts to officially begin. Eve and Karen lined up with the other hopefuls, the gym buzzing with nervous excitement. As they practiced jumps and routines, Eve found herself exchanging encouraging smiles with Karen, each of them silently rooting for the other.

By the end of the session, both girls were out of breath but smiling. Eve felt a spark of pride in herself and a connection with Karen that she hadn't expected. She couldn't predict whether she'd make the team, but she realized she'd already gained something just by showing up: a new friend and a glimpse of what it meant to step out of her shell.

Elsewhere, the atmosphere at the nearby park was anything but calm. Ray adjusted his jacket as he leaned against the rusting frame of an old swing set, scanning the surroundings. Zeke paced impatiently beside him, his eyes darting to the horizon every few seconds.

"He's late," Zeke muttered, frustration lacing his words. "Nathan always does this."

"Relax," Ray said. "You tried your best last time because you were by yourself. He'll show. He knows we need him. Blaze knows we need him."

Just as the words left his mouth, a faint hum filled the air. Ray's posture stiffened. "We're not alone," he whispered.

From the shadows, a group of armored figures emerged, their movements synchronized and menacing. Nexus Soldiers. Their dark uniforms bore the insignia of Jovan.

"Ambush!" Zeke shouted, reaching into his pocket to retrieve a small device. With a press of a button, a flash of light engulfed him and Ray, their forms transforming as they morphed into their battle gear.

"STRIKEFORCE ARMOR ON!" Ray and Zeke both yelled, pulling out their Strikeforce Blasters.

Blasts of energy erupted as the soldiers opened fire, the quiet park suddenly alive with the chaos of a shootout. Ray dove behind a bench, returning fire with precision, while Zeke engaged the soldiers head-on, his agility keeping him one step ahead of their coordinated attacks.

"I hope Nathan doesn't get caught in this crossfire" Ray muttered under his breath, reloading his weapon.

"You're telling me dude. This is like a level out of Call of Duty!" Zeke yells out returning fire.

Not far from the battle, Nathan watched from behind a cluster of bushes, his heart pounding. He had intended to meet Ray and Zeke, but the sight of the Nexus Soldiers had sent him into hiding. He clenched his fists, torn between fear and the urge to help.

Suddenly, a sleek black vehicle screeched to a halt nearby. The door opened, and a man with sharp features and an authoritative presence stepped out. Jovan.

Nathan froze as Jovan's piercing gaze locked onto him. "Get in," Jovan ordered, his voice calm yet commanding.

Nathan hesitated but knew he had little choice. He scrambled into the car, his mind racing. As the vehicle sped away, Jovan spoke without looking at him. "You have potential, Nathan. It's time you put it to use. Welcome to Zech's Industries."

Nathan's stomach churned, but he forced himself to nod. The weight of his decision pressed heavily on his shoulders as the car disappeared into the distance.

Meanwhile, back at school, Eve and Karen sat together outside the gymnasium, their shoulders slumped. The list of new cheerleading recruits had just been posted, and neither of their names was on it.

"Guess that's that," Eve said with a forced laugh, trying to mask her disappointment.

Karen sighed. "At least we tried."

Before they could wallow any further, Eve's phone buzzed. She picked it up and saw a message from Blaze. Her eyes widened as she read it.

"There's trouble at the park," Eve said, standing abruptly. "I need to go."

Karen hesitated. "Should I come with you?"

Eve nodded. "Yeah. Let's go."

When they arrived at the park, Blaze was already waiting for them, holding a small device in his hand. He turned to Karen, studying her for a moment before handing her a Pink Strikeforce Morpher.

"You're going to need this," Blaze said.

Karen looked at the device in her hand, then back at Eve. "Are you sure about this?"

Eve nodded. "We need all the help we can get."

As they reached the battlefield, the chaos was overwhelming. Ray and Zeke were pinned down, barely holding their own against the relentless Nexus Soldiers. Without hesitation, Eve and Karen joined the fray. Eve activated her Morpher, transforming into her Strikeforce armor.

"STRIKEFORCE ARMOR ON!" Eve yells fray activating her Strikeforce Whip. "HIYAHH!!!!!" Eve grunts, taking out two Nexus Soldiers with her whip on top of the slide.

Karen hesitated for a moment before following suit. "Um.....STRIKEFORCE ARMOR ON!" Karen yells out. Her armor materialized around her, and she felt a surge of power course through her veins. A sleek crossbow appeared in her hands—her Strikeforce weapon.

"Let's do this," Karen said, her voice steadier than she expected.

The two girls fought side by side with the boys, their teamwork seamless despite the chaos. Karen took aim with her crossbow, her shots precise and effective. One by one, the Nexus Soldiers fell, their formations breaking under the combined.

The school's grand stone archway loomed in the distance, a comforting sight after the chaos of the battle. The sun hung low in the sky, casting warm, golden hues over the sprawling campus as the team trudged up the cobblestone path. Their clothes were tattered, their faces streaked with dirt, but the subtle smiles they exchanged spoke volumes of their relief.

Eve walked slightly ahead of the group, her auburn hair catching the sunlight with each step. Beside her, Karen—a newcomer with a quiet demeanor but an undeniable presence—matched her pace. Karen's sharp eyes darted between the old ivy-covered buildings and the worn faces of her new companions, soaking in every detail.

"You'll like them," Eve said, breaking the silence. Her voice was steady, but there was a hint of anticipation in it. "Ray and Zeke are...unique, but they've got your back once you're part of the team."

Karen nodded, her expression unreadable. "They fought well out there," she said simply.

The rest of the team lingered behind, sharing quiet conversations and exchanging weary glances. When they reached the main courtyard, two figures were waiting under the shade of an ancient oak tree. One was tall and lanky, with glasses perched precariously on his nose and a book tucked under his arm. The other was broad-shouldered, with a relaxed posture that made him seem perpetually at ease.

"There they are," Eve announced, her tone lighter now. She gestured for Karen to follow as she approached the pair.

Ray looked up from his book first, his sharp features lighting up with curiosity as he noticed Karen. "New recruit?" he asked, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose.

"More like reinforcement," Eve replied with a smirk. "This is Karen. She's the one who helped turn the tide back there."

Zeke's grin spread wide as he stepped forward, offering Karen a hand. "Zeke. Resident powerhouse and unofficial morale booster," he said with a wink. His handshake was firm but friendly.

Karen shook his hand, her lips curving into the faintest of smiles. "Karen. Just...Karen," she said.

Ray closed his book and extended a hand as well. "Ray. Strategist, occasional voice of reason. Welcome to the team," he said, his tone warm but measured.

"Thanks," Karen said, glancing between the two of them. For the first time since they'd met, her guarded demeanor seemed to ease slightly.

Eve crossed her arms, a satisfied expression on her face as she watched the interaction. "All right, introductions are done. Let's debrief and get some rest. Tomorrow's another day."

The group began to disperse, but not before Zeke clapped Karen on the back. "You'll fit right in," he said with a grin.

As they walked toward the school's main building, Karen allowed herself a small, hopeful smile. Maybe this place wouldn't be so bad after all.

The hum of the car's engine filled the silence as Jovan drove Nathan home. The city lights blurred through the windows, casting fleeting patterns on the dashboard. Nathan sat quietly in the passenger seat, his gaze fixed on the passing streets, lost in thought.

"Well, looks like you were running like you've just seen a ghost." Jovan said, his voice cutting through the low rumble. He glanced at Nathan briefly before returning his eyes to the road.

Nathan shrugged. "So I guess those were your guys back there."

Jovan smirked. "Yes they were, but they weren't there to kill you. They were there to protect you Still, you've got a knack for this. Don't sell yourself short."

The car slowed as they approached Nathan's house. Jovan pulled up to the curb, shifting the car into park. Nathan hesitated for a moment before opening the door. He stepped out and turned back to face Jovan.

"Thanks for the ride," he said, his voice tinged with exhaustion.

"Anytime," Jovan replied, leaning slightly against the steering wheel. "Get some rest. You've earned it."

Nathan nodded, but before he closed the door, he paused. "Hey, Jovan?"

"Yeah?"

Nathan's brow furrowed as he considered his words. "Do you think joining Zech's Industries is the right move?"

Jovan exhaled deeply, his expression unreadable for a moment. "That's not an easy question. But whatever you decide, make sure it's your choice. Not someone else's. Here's my card,"

Nathan gave a small, thoughtful nod before closing the door. Jovan watched as he walked up the path to his house, the weight of unspoken decisions hanging in the air.

As Jovan drove off into the night, Nathan lingered on his porch, staring at the stars above. The quiet hum of the car receded into the distance, leaving him alone with his thoughts. Joining Zech's Industries could change everything—for better or worse. And with that, he stepped inside, the door clicking shut behind him, ending the day but not the questions that remained.
