MegaMan Battle Net Warrior (Season One) Episode 7: Missile Control

The sun was setting over Evanston, casting the city in hues of orange and gold. The Evanston Civic Auditorium was abuzz with activity as scientists, policymakers, and activists gathered to discuss nuclear disarmament and the future of global security. Inside, the crowd murmured with a mix of excitement and tension.

Chris and Roberto sat near the back, blending into the diverse audience. Chris adjusted the strap of his backpack, where his PSP rested, ready for anything.

“This isn’t exactly my idea of fun,” Roberto said, crossing his arms.

Chris smirked. “It’s important. Noah’s always saying we need to stay informed about the world we’re trying to protect. Besides, it’s not like we have anything better to do while he’s gone.”

Before Roberto could respond, a familiar voice called out from a nearby row. “Chris? Is that you?”

Chris turned to see Tiffany, an old friend from school. She had always been passionate about activism, and her presence here didn’t surprise him.

“Tiffany!” Chris said, standing up. “What are you doing here?”

She smiled, adjusting her glasses. “I’m volunteering for the event. It’s great to see you! I didn’t know you were into this kind of stuff.”

Chris chuckled nervously. “Yeah, just trying to learn more about the world, you know?”

Scene: Hades’s Scheme Unfolds

Far from the auditorium, in a shadowy military facility, Hades materialized in a burst of blue flames. The guards stationed at the facility froze as the god of the underworld stepped forward, his smirk as cold as his aura was hot.

“Gentlemen,” Hades said, his voice dripping with mock civility. “Thanks for keeping the lights on for me. I’ll take it from here.”

With a snap of his fingers, dark energy pulsed outward, corrupting the control systems of the facility’s test weapons. Screens flickered as Heartless materialized, subduing the guards.

Hades strolled toward the control panel, examining the rows of switches and monitors. “Let’s see... ah, there it is. Nuclear test missile alpha. Targeting coordinates... hmm, how about that quaint little discussion in Evanston?”

The dark god’s laughter echoed through the room as he locked in the target. “Talk about a ‘blast’ of a discussion. Let’s see how those do-gooders handle this.”

Scene: The Threat Revealed

Back at the auditorium, the keynote speaker was midway through a presentation when an alarm blared from Chris’s PSP. The holographic image of Dr. Light appeared, his expression urgent.

“Chris! Roberto! We have a situation.”

The boys leaned closer to the device, trying not to draw attention. “What’s going on, Doc?” Chris asked.

“A nuclear test weapon has been hijacked. It’s targeting your location. You have approximately fifteen minutes to neutralize it.”

Chris’s eyes widened. “What? How do we stop it?”

“There’s a failsafe control terminal in the basement of the building. You’ll need to access it and disarm the weapon manually.”

Roberto clenched his fists. “Of course this happens now. Let’s move.”

Chris turned to Tiffany, his expression serious. “Tiffany, you need to get everyone out of here. There’s a threat. Trust me.”

Tiffany hesitated but saw the urgency in his eyes. “Okay. I’ll do what I can.”

As Hades’s wall of fire crackled ominously, a faint sound of a TV news broadcast filtered into the basement. Chris and Roberto froze, listening to the grim update.

“Breaking news: a missile test weapon appears to have been hijacked. Authorities are advising residents in the Evanston area to evacuate immediately. The missile’s trajectory suggests it may target the Civic Auditorium, where a nuclear disarmament discussion is currently taking place.”

Chris clenched his fists. “We have to act now. There’s no time to evacuate everyone.”

Roberto nodded. “But how do we stop it? We can’t disarm it from here with Hades blocking us.”

Just then, Tiffany appeared, her face pale but determined. “I heard the announcement. There’s a computer lab nearby—if we can jack Megaman or Sonic into the missile’s mainframe, we might be able to redirect its course.”

The three raced upstairs, dodging pockets of panicked attendees and fire-summoned obstacles from Hades’s lingering magic. They found the computer lab, its rows of terminals glowing softly in the dimly lit room.

Tiffany immediately sprang into action, booting up one of the computers and plugging in a portable drive. “I can access the missile’s mainframe from here, but it’s going to take a minute.”

Chris and Roberto stood guard, ready for anything.

“Minute’s all we got, Tiff,” Chris said, keeping an eye on the door. “Make it count.”

As Tiffany typed furiously, a progress bar appeared on the monitor. Her hands moved with practiced precision, sweat forming on her brow as she bypassed layers of encrypted security.

“I’m in!” she shouted. “The missile’s mainframe is online, but someone needs to jack in and manually redirect its trajectory.”

Chris and Roberto looked at each other.

“This one’s yours,” Roberto said, gesturing to Chris. “Megaman’s got the precision. Sonic’s speed won’t help in a tight mainframe like this.”

Chris nodded, activating his PSP. “Megaman, you ready for this?”

Megaman’s holographic form appeared above the device. “Always. Let’s save some lives.”

Chris jacked Megaman into the system, and the screen showed the familiar grid-like environment of the missile’s mainframe. The place was a chaotic mess, with firewalls and digital debris scattered everywhere, courtesy of Hades’s tampering.

“Looks like Hades left a few surprises,” Megaman said, dodging a sudden blast of corrupted code.

Tiffany monitored the system from her terminal. “I’ll guide you through. The core is heavily encrypted, but if you can reach it, we can reroute the missile.”

Chapter: Racing the Clock

Scene: Enter the Trickster

As Tiffany worked tirelessly to hack into the missile’s mainframe, a chilling laugh echoed through the computer lab. From the shadows, a tall, wiry figure emerged, its body composed of shifting, shadowy threads that seemed to glitch in and out of existence. The Heartless had a long, pointed nose and a chaotic energy that radiated mischief and malice.

Roberto stepped forward, his PSP in hand. “Looks like we’ve got company.”

The Trickster Heartless twirled its cane, bowing mockingly. Its glowing eyes locked onto the computer Tiffany was using. Without a word, it darted forward, aiming to destroy the terminal.

“Not happening!” Roberto shouted. He activated his PSP, and in a flash of light, he cross-fused with Sonic. The transformation left Roberto in a sleek blue suit adorned with glowing red streaks, resembling Sonic’s speed-driven design.

Scene: Roberto vs. The Trickster

The Trickster moved unpredictably, teleporting around the room and hurling bursts of dark energy. Roberto used Sonic’s incredible speed to dodge the attacks, zigzagging through the lab.

“You’re fast,” Roberto taunted, curling into a spinning ball to deflect an incoming attack. “But I’m faster!”

The Trickster snapped its fingers, summoning shadowy duplicates of itself. They cackled and lunged toward Roberto, trying to overwhelm him. Roberto spun through them, shattering the copies, but the real Trickster appeared behind him, aiming for the computer.

“Oh no, you don’t!” Roberto roared, launching himself into a Spin Dash. The attack connected, sending the Trickster flying into a wall.

Meanwhile, Chris jacked Megaman into the missile’s mainframe. Inside the digital space, Megaman found himself in a fiery, chaotic environment. The core of the missile glowed ominously in the distance, but a towering figure blocked the way.

Hades stood there, his flaming hair casting an eerie light. “Megaman, my favorite little tin can. Thought you could waltz in here and ruin my plans?”

Megaman raised his buster arm, aiming it at the god. “I’m not letting you hurt anyone, Hades.”

Hades smirked. “Oh, you’re adorable. Let’s see how you handle this.”

The battle began with Hades summoning waves of digital flames, forcing Megaman to dodge and weave. The heat distorted the environment, making it harder for Megaman to aim.

“You can’t stop me,” Hades taunted, throwing a massive fireball. Megaman barely dodged, countering with a charged blast from his buster. The shot hit Hades square in the chest, but the god only staggered slightly, laughing.

“You’re going to have to do better than that, kid.”

Hades launched a barrage of flaming skulls that homed in on Megaman. Megaman slid under the attack, firing a series of rapid shots. Each blast chipped away at Hades’s energy, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

Back in the real world, the Trickster Heartless had recovered, now angrier and more erratic. It lunged at the computer again, but Roberto intercepted it with a Spin Attack, sending the Trickster sprawling.

“Give it up, pal,” Roberto said, his voice echoing with Sonic’s confident tone.

The Trickster tried one last trick, splitting into multiple shadowy forms. Roberto grinned. “Nice try, but I’ve seen this before.”

He charged up, spinning into a high-speed blur that tore through every duplicate. The real Trickster reappeared, weakened and wobbling. With one final Spin Dash, Roberto struck the Heartless head-on, disintegrating it into wisps of darkness.

“Tiffany, how’s it going?” Roberto asked, panting slightly.

“Chris and Megaman are still inside,” she replied, her fingers flying over the keyboard

Inside the missile’s chaotic mainframe, Megaman was battered and struggling to stand. Hades towered over him, his flaming hair burning brighter with each victorious step.

“Admit it, Megaman,” Hades sneered, conjuring a fiery orb in his hand. “You’re outmatched, outgunned, and, frankly, out of time. So, any last words before I turn you into scrap metal?”

Megaman clenched his fists, his systems sparking from the earlier attacks. “I’m not giving up. I can’t let you win.”

Hades chuckled. “Oh, you adorable little toaster. That stubbornness is cute, but it won’t save you.”

Back in the computer lab, Tiffany was monitoring the mainframe’s status. Seeing Megaman’s dire situation, her eyes widened in panic.

“We’re out of time!” she shouted. “Chris, I have an idea, but it’s risky.”

Chris nodded. “Do it. Whatever it takes.”

Tiffany’s fingers danced over the keyboard as she initiated a virus injection. “This is a custom worm I’ve been working on—it’s experimental, but if it works, it’ll disrupt Hades’s code long enough for Megaman to take him out.”

In the mainframe, Hades raised his hand to deliver the finishing blow, but his movements faltered. His form flickered as green digital streams wrapped around him like chains.

“What the—?!” Hades growled, his flames sputtering. “What is this?!”

Megaman’s systems pinged, displaying a message: VIRUS INJECTION SUCCESSFUL. HADES’S PROCESSING SLOWED BY 75%.

“Tiffany, you genius!” Megaman said, his energy returning.

Hades thrashed against the digital chains, snarling. “This is cheating! You little brats think you can win with cheap tricks?!”

Megaman leveled his buster gun at the god, his aim steady. “It’s not a cheap trick—it’s teamwork.”

With a blinding flash, Megaman unleashed a fully charged shot directly at Hades’s core. The god’s form shattered into fragments of corrupted code, disintegrating into the ether with a final, enraged scream.

With Hades deleted, the mainframe stabilized, and the missile’s course locked in. Megaman accessed the final control panel, redirecting it toward the sun.

“Missile course confirmed,” Tiffany announced. “It’s heading straight for the sun. Implosion in T-minus one minute.”

Chris jacked Megaman out just as the missile disappeared into the atmosphere. The team watched the news feed on a nearby TV as the missile exploded in a harmless blaze against the sun, its destructive power nullified.

Cheers erupted in the lab. Roberto high-fived Tiffany, who leaned back in her chair with a relieved sigh.

“We actually did it,” Roberto said, still in disbelief.

Chris grinned. “Yeah. But something tells me this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Hades or the Disney Circle.”

As the team packed up and prepared to leave, Chris’s phone buzzed with a message from Noah.

“Mission complete. Be back soon.”

Chris furrowed his brow. “Mission? What mission?”

Roberto glanced over. “Did Noah say where he went?”

Chris shook his head, staring at the cryptic message. “No. And something tells me it’s big.”

The chapter ended with Chris and the team pondering Noah’s mysterious absence, the threat of the Disney Circle still looming, and the unknown challenges ahead.
